Ford Explorer Takes Down Serious Fed $ for Gas Diet

by Infinite MPG on January 27, 2010

A N.Y. Times report tells how Ford will use a cool $400 million of Energy Department loans to improve the gas mileage of the Ford Explorer.   Since the Explorer is one of the most popular SUVs of all time, and Ford is seriously behind improving it, it’s nice to see this Government + Ford cooperation to build a strong future for the venerable vehicle.

Ford will use the cash to revamp a Chicago assembly plant to produce the next-generation Ford Explorer, which the company expects will get at least 25 percent better gas mileage over current models.
